It's a....

1/27/15

I've always loved when friends would ask what we all thought they were having. It was fun to think about their little family and picture what it would be in a few short months. I didn't want to miss out on our chance, so we ran a little poll, and the majority of our friends said "BOY!"

I asked early in the morning, Wednesday Jan 14th, and our appointment wasn't until 4:15 that afternoon. Getting all of these notifications made it fun, but so much harder to wait that day! We got to our appointment, and the doctor was running unusually late. We were DYING. Finally they called us back, and.... baby kept it's legs crossed. The entire time. We were so bummed. The doc said he was 95% positive it was a girl but didn't want to guarantee that for us since there wasn't a clear shot. To make up for our disappointment, we went to Cafe Rio, booked an appointment for a quick gender check ultrasound the following Saturday, and headed to Buy Buy Baby to start a registry for our little one. Holy Moly. That store is incredible and so overwhelming. Derek had fun shooting the little gun and I thoroughly enjoyed the awesome goodie bag they gave us at the end!

Friday morning, I woke up with the worst pain I've ever felt. The left side of my body from my ribs to my hip had a giant cramp that I could not get to release. I took a bath, and it made it worse. I was in so much pain, I couldn't keep anything down, and all of that made the pain so much worse. I thought relaxing and ice would help, and it didn't. Changing positions didn't do a thing for it either. I ended up screaming even when no one could hear me and crying so hard on the phone to my mom she could barely hear me. She asked me if I thought it could be a kidney stone, and after looking up the symptoms, I knew that was exactly what was going on. I rarely call Derek at work to see if he could get out early, but I knew I had to go to the ER as soon as possible. They're pretty awesome at letting him off, but it can take a little while for somebody else to come up to relieve him. The miracle? He'd been feeling like he needed to get out of the tower cab and the process of being relieved had already been started by the time I called. He never asks to get out of the cab, but I needed it. It was such a neat reassurance that Heavenly Father knows exactly where we are. We got to the ER and had to sit in the gross disgusting waiting room for a bit. When they called me back, I was so relieved. My doctors and nurses were incredible. They gave me morphine, drew blood, and got me on fluids nearly the second I laid down on the bed. And... the reason I'm even stating this here... I got another ultrasound to check on my kidneys and how the baby was doing. AGAIN... little babe's legs were crossed. This tech also started calling it a girl, but didn't want to guarantee that. We saw the babe's sweet face profile and oh my goodness, it has the cutest little nose! She also showed us the foot with all of the toes and it made all of the pain worth it! Turns out I had a kidney infection, but they couldn't see a stone without a CT scan. So I may or may not have had one.

After two teasers, we HAD to know what we were having! We checked with some friends on where they went a few months back and we headed there Saturday. It was  all the way out in Koreatown in Hollywood and it was in the most bizarre location. But the ladies were super nice and I guess the third time really is the charm! The little legs were still crossed, but she was able to get a picture from the underside, and.....

We went shopping afterwards to celebrate finally knowing and ended up with some way cute outfits! We decided to fold some up and snap a picture and let our friends know that we're so excited to start doing her laundry!
