On Wednesday morning, I woke up at about 3 and it took me maybe two minutes to realize that the excruciating pain I was feeling in my right side was the same pain I'd had on my left side with my previous kidney stones. I woke Derek up and told him I was getting in the bath, but that we'd probably need to head to the ER soon. I was in the bath for maybe five minutes and decided I couldn't handle it any longer, we needed to go. So we hurried and rushed out the door and made it to the labor and delivery unit at the hospital (since I'm now past 20 weeks) by about 3:45. I expected them to give me morphine like they did last time... I mean that's the only reason I went to the hospital instead of suffering at home. But.... they didn't. They gave me zofran so I could stop grossing out the poor laboring ladies next to me... Triage is a joke. I got two ultrasounds and they found fluid on my right kidney. No wonder I was in more pain than I was the last time. The nurses were really sweet, but really slow. After a bag of fluids and a round of antibiotics, they told me that they were going to admit me to the main hospital since my baby was doing fine. And we knew babe was doing fine because I was wearing the fetal monitor on my tummy. All of the ladies near me had cooperating babies. All you could hear were their sweet little heartbeats. My baby? My baby hated those monitors and I've never felt her move or kick more. And it lasted nearly the entire time. And when those monitors are kicked or moved, all you can hear is loud static or something similar to when somebody hits a microphone. And that's nearly all you could hear coming from my little monitor.... a very angry baby that doesn't like her space to be crowded! And yet, it just made me love her that much more. I think my second ultrasound moved the kidney stone around a bit because I was feeling so much better after, and I really didn't want to be admitted to the hospital since I'd be there at least another 24 hours. And my poor husband just had to sit and sleep in an uncomfortable chair. When the doctor came back and said I didn't have an infection, we convinced him to let us go home... 13 hours after we first arrived. Our longest hospital visit yet! The pain was a little intense after getting home, but nothing Tylenol couldn't fix.
The main reason we didn't want to stay in the hospital was our plans for an amazing weekend starting the next afternoon. We were so worried we were going to have to back out, but I pushed through the pain and we enjoyed every minute of our weekend! First stop, Lakers game in LA! Our good friends, the Killpacks, are huge Jazz fans and everybody knows Derek bleeds purple and gold, so when we found out they'd be playing each other, we knew we had to get tickets! Our friends, the Horrells came with us and we had such a blast! We left two of the tickets in the car on accident, so that was quite the adventure. We ended up sitting wives together and husbands together and it ended up being so fun! The boys were able to talk basketball and we were able to talk kids, jobs, houses, moving, everything. The Jazz ended up winning to Derek's dismay, but still one of the most fun games we've been to!
That night, we drove a little ways and stayed in this cute little house in Fort MacArthur. It had a cute Mediterranean vibe to it. The next morning we packed up and headed for SAN DIEGO! The agenda for that day was lunch and whale watching. We met up with our friends, the Bells, and ate at this really yummy Cuban grill while the boys fixed the tire on the Killpack's van. We were able to leave and make it right on time for whale watching. I'm not really sure what I was expecting for whale watching, but it was not what we did. We boarded this massive boat that fit at least 300 people and headed to the front of the ship. Since it was so big, I expected it to smoothly glide through waves. But once we got going, that was not the case. Both Jaime and I got so sick and were ready to hang out with our heads peering over the edge. Shawn stepped in and saved the day with his breath mints though! I don't know what it is about mints, but that seems to be the only thing that soothes my queasy stomach. We ended up seeing a group of 3 whales and a ton of dolphins! It was really neat! We ate at a kabob place after, which Derek loved!
The next morning we woke up and headed to La Jolla to go sea kayaking through caves! The little town we rented kayaks in was so cute. We split our group into two different kayak groups, and we spent the first 2 hours watching all the little kids! It was so fun to be holding babies and building sand castles. It made me so excited for family trips to come! It was then our turn to go kayaking and we had a blast in our double kayak! We went with the Killpack's and the water was so perfect. We got to see a lot of sea lions, fish, and a dead shark. Derek did most of the work in paddling, only because my timing and rhythm really threw us off. I wouldn't let him jump in though, so he was kinda bummed. Maybe one day when I'm not pregnant and we don't have to share a kayak;) We went to a really yummy taco place after that Derek claimed was better than Rubios. That's saying something... something big. We headed back to our hotel and hit up the most amazing park. The wives sat and held babies and chatted, while all the big boys and kids played tag. The husbands nearly took out several kids and each other, but they had a blast! We headed home the next morning, sadly. Our weekend in San Diego was incredible!
